From the One Ocean Science congress to the UN Ocean Conference, from science to policy, 2 weeks of momentum for the Ocean in Nice, France.
AE4RIA actively followed the 2 weeks scientific advancement and policy commitments for a healthy ocean in Nice, from networking to promoting the research findings and latest initiatives from the AE4RIA teams ranging from pathways for a sustainable blue economy (BRIDGE-BS project), to DST for zero-net emissions in the shipping sector (GCH shipping maritime tool), maritime up-skilling and reskilling programs and MPAs conservation initiatives.
UNOC3 brought at the forefront of the political agenda the great challenges faced by the OCEAN but more importantly major efforts, new initiatives and national commitments to protect the ocean and the future of coastal communities.
Notably, the EU launched the EU Ocean Pact, establishing a holistic EU marine and maritime policy with ambitious sustainability objectives for blue sector and marine conservation. The Digital Twin of the Ocean also holds strong expectations as a promising tools to better informed policy and society for science-driven decision and actions. Both conferences hold multiple sessions on ocean finance while a dedicated event on blue finance, the ‘Blue Economy and Finance Forum’, took place during the weekend in Monaco, highlighting the financial needs but also exploring innovative financial instruments and investments to be mobilized for the transition of marine sector and protection of marine ecosystem and development science-industry-finance partnerships.
