20th High-Level Meeting on "Climate change and its impact on the life and cultural heritage of the Mediterranean"

20th High-Level Meeting on "Climate change and its impact on the life and cultural heritage of the Mediterranean" organized by Marianna Vardinoyannis Foundation and Nizami Ganjavi International Center (Baku, Azerbaijan: https://lnkd.in/gxBPXiN). An audience of heads of States!

Panel TITLE: European Green Deal: Challenges and Opportunities ABSTRACT: According to IPCC latest report, we have 10 years to limit climate change catastrophe and keep global warming to a maximum of 1.5 C, a point beyond which even half a degree will significantly worsen the risks of drought, floods, extreme heat and poverty for hundreds of millions of people. Global net human-caused emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) would need to drop by about 45% from 2010 levels by 2030, reaching “net zero” around 2050. The European Green Deal is a roadmap for making the EU's economy sustainable by turning climate and environmental challenges into opportunities across all policy areas and making the transition just and inclusive for all. The European  Green Deal is our new growth strategy and provides a roadmap with actions to boost the efficient use of resources by moving to a clean, circular economy and stop climate change, revert biodiversity loss and cut pollution. It outlines the investments needed and financing tools available and explains how to ensure a just and inclusive transition. The European Green Deal covers all sectors of the economy, notably transport, energy, agriculture, buildings, and industries such as steel, cement, ICT, textiles and chemicals. This panel aims to discuss the potential of Greece's research and innovation ecosystem, together with the financial and policy institutions, to accelerate the much-needed sustainability transition and implement the European Green Deal. By showing the rest of the world how to be sustainable and competitive, we can convince other countries to move with us.
