Interview of Prof. Koundouri in national newspaper “Real News”

On the occasion of World Water Day, March 22, read Prof. Koundouri’s  interview in national newspaper “Real News”, where she explains the new Athenian Brewery’s (https://nerogiatoavrio.gr/) project, which she scientifically leads. The project is titled “Water for Tomorrow”. Prof. Koundouri stressed that Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 of Agenda 2030 of the United Nations, focuses on ensuring availability and sustainable management of water and sanitation for all. As indicated in the 2020 Sustainable Development Report of UN SDSN , “SDG6 is badly off track” not only with regards to the current status of its global implementation, but also its projected implementation in 2030. The needed acceleration of the transition to sustainable water-food-land management systems requires transformative change, that is only possible through the design of innovative pathways based on portfolios of technological, social, financial and policy pathways. To ensure their implementation, these pathways need to be co-designed via inclusive processes that engage all relevant stakeholders.

Prof. Koundouri explained that the programme “Water for Tomorrow” will be implemented initially in the Region of Thessaly, where we aim to showcase a successful example of developing and implementing sustainable and inclusive water management, that is scalable to the rest of Greece.
