Participation in the Event “Shaping Tomorrow Together with the European Climate Pact – Urban Resilience and Preparedness”

Prof. Phoebe Koundouri, in her capacity as an EU Climate Pact Ambassador, had the pleasure of participating in the event “Shaping Tomorrow Together with the European Climate Pact – Urban Resilience and Preparedness”, organized by INZEB in collaboration with the European Committee of the Regions and the Regional Union of Municipalities of Attica (PEDA), within the framework of the EU Regions Week – Close to You initiative.

During the High-Level Panel Discussion “From Emergency to Strategy: Strengthening Urban Preparedness in the Long Term”, Prof. Koundouri highlighted the importance of systemic, science-based climate strategies and underscored the need for close cooperation among local authorities, academic institutions, and citizens to enhance urban and regional resilience.

She also presented a selection of leading EU-funded projects that advance innovation in climate adaptation, resilience, and sustainable urban transformation, including:

  • Climate Impetus (H2020): Development of digital, data-driven tools designed to accelerate local climate adaptation and strengthen resilience through regional living labs.

  • ARSINOE_EU (H2020): Implementation of systemic innovation approaches that integrate technological, social, and policy solutions for climate-resilient regions.

  • Pathways2Resilience (Horizon Europe): Support for local and regional authorities in co-developing tailored climate-adaptation pathways aligned with the EU Mission on Climate Adaptation.

The panel also featured contributions from Dr. Iphigenia Keramitsoglou (National Observatory of Athens), Dr. Panos Voulellis (Urban Planner), and Eleni Gioti (European Investment Bank). The discussion was moderated by Dimitris Kollias (Ministry of Environment and Energy).
