Webinar “Untangling the role of Ecosystems and their Services in the Water-Energy-Food Nexus: an interdisciplinary hybrid workshop”

The workshop gathered researchers and practitioners from the fields of “Water-Energy-Food Nexus”, “Ecosystems Services” and “Ecosystems” to explore the definition of Ecosystems in the Nexus debate.

The aim of the workshop was to leverage different perspectives on the Water-Energy-Food-Ecosystems Nexus, discuss barriers and success stories on the inclusion of Ecosystems in the Nexus and create a shared strategy for future research and implementation efforts.

Prof. Chrysi Laspidou presented the COST Action NexusNet and Prof. Phoebe Koundouri gave a keynote speech on “Monetary Valuation of Ecosystems Services in the WEF Nexus: Methodology and Applications”. In addition , Prof. Koundouri as the moderator of the “Working Group 2: The place of Ecosystem Services in the Nexus” facilitated and guided the discussion on multiple roles in the Nexus have been attributed to Ecosystems through their Services. The aim of this working group was to “place” Ecosystem services in driving forces, solutions and outcomes related to the Nexus concept. The impact and benefits of using a Nexus perspective to analyze such ecosystem elements Services also discussed.
