“Life Lessons in Schools”

"Group psychotherapy is a form of psychotherapy based on the processes and outcomes that occur when the same small group of individuals meets regularly, in a designated place, over an extended period, under the guidance of a trained therapist, to improve neurotic symptoms and achieve personality change in certain areas."

“Life Lessons in Schools”
During the winter and spring semesters of the 2024–2025 academic year, as part of the Study Program in Educational Sciences at the Athens University of Economics and Business, a series of specialized lectures was implemented focusing on mental health and group dynamics.
The lecture series was led by Mr. Pantelis Papadopoulos, Psychiatrist-Psychotherapist, and concluded during the spring semester, specifically on March 28, 2025.
The lectures covered a wide range of topics, with emphasis on group functioning and the psychosocial mechanisms activated among its members. Particular attention was given to the emotions and thoughts experienced by each member within the group, as well as to the functionality and dynamics of the group as a system.
Additionally, the lectures explored how an individual’s personality is shaped under the influence of society and socialization agents, highlighting the importance of developing principles and values through participation in collective settings. The role of the group in enhancing members’ self-esteem and fostering their personal and social identity was also emphasized.
Through this series, students had the opportunity to explore issues of psychosocial development and connect theoretical knowledge to their personal and professional growth.
The lecturers, coming from the fields of mental health and education, elaborated on the role of group psychotherapy in various contexts, including educational settings. Through their presentations, students gained a better understanding of how the principles of group therapeutic processes can be applied in schools, promoting emotional intelligence, empathy, and psychological resilience.
The contribution of these experts was not limited to theoretical insights but also addressed current challenges in the field of education, promoting critical reflection and professional awareness among students. Through this process, students were informed about contemporary educational issues and gained valuable tools to contribute meaningfully to the educational field, equipped with both scientific competence and social consciousness.
The successful initiative “Life Lessons in Schools”, part of the Educational Sciences Program at the Athens University of Economics and Business, in collaboration with the Hellenic Society of Analytical Group and Family Psychotherapy, will continue in the upcoming academic year 2025–2026!
Have a great summer!
