Structure of the Program
"I am convinced that the best learning takes place when the learner takes charge."
Seymour Papert, South African-born American mathematician, computer scientist, and educator
The Teacher Education Program of Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB) is of an annual duration (2 semesters) and is addressed to senior students (on their 7th and 8th semesters) of all the Departments of AUEB. The curriculum consists of two modules:
A. Pedagogical competence. It consists of a total of eight (8) courses in Educational Sciences at a weekly two-hour class for each semester.
B. Didactic competence. It consists of the courses "Practicum in Teaching I and II" for the two semesters, which consist of students’ teaching activities in real conditions in public school units. Practicum in Teaching I and II aim at putting the theory of teaching into practice through the principles of experiential learning, through demonstrating that teaching is a single, open process, but which needs programming, planning and preparation, initially in a safe and controlled environment (special workshop), and then in real conditions (public high schools).
Students of the Teacher Education Program, in order to complete their studies and receive the recognized by the Ministry of Education, Certificate of Pedagogical and Didactic Competence, are evaluated in:
- every course and
- Practicum in Teaching I and II.
The final grade is obtained by taking into account both the grade of assignments per course and the grade in the final examinations (February, June, September).
Attendance for the course "Practicum in Teaching I and II" and of other courses of the Program is obligatory and also evaluated, so that the candidate teacher can cultivate the necessary background of knowledge and skills.
