27/5/2022: Discussion on the occasion of a work of art…

The "education" of the candidate teachers, which is linked to the multifaceted cultivation of man's personality through his contact with all forms of art that lead him to admiration, wonder, and reflection is sought through the innovative action "Art and Education" of the Teacher Education Program of Athens University of Economics and Business, in collaboration with the Athens School of Fine Arts.

In the framework of the action "Art and education" which took place during the academic year 2021-2022, the students were invited to present the works of art they created in groups during the spring semester at the exhibition, themed "Bullying in schools", under the guidance of the artists of the ASFA, Irini Giannemara, Christianna Asprouli and Despina Vaxevanidi.

In particular, on Friday 27/05/2022, the above action was completed with great success. The students brought the works of art they had created to the amphitheater and placed them in specific spots around the hall, before presenting them to their fellow students and the discussion group. The group consisted of the scientific director of the program and the instructor of the course, Dr. Vasiliki Brinia, the lecturer at the ASFA, Dr. Irini Giannemara, Georgios Stamatakis and Mrs. Christianna Asprouli, artists of the ASFA as well as the psychoanalyst Mrs. Marianna Tsitsopoulou.

During the presentation of the works of art, the members of each group were introduced to the guests and presented the title of their work and discussed its content. The discussion group processed each project for a few minutes and then its members shared their thoughts. There were artistic observations as well as interventions related to psychology and psychiatry, offering the exhibition another dimension, that of experiential, as each student could share his/her experience and especially the feeling that the subject and the involvement with his/her creative approach through the work of art had caused him / her.

The students exchanged views, comments and observations, sharing a unique experience about the harsh reality of bullying, through art.

Final thoughts: All of us have been victims of bullying in one way or another and there needs to be a comprehensive intervention program, that ensures the participation of the entire school community and the wider social institutions, in order to effectively prevent and deal with the phenomenon.
