Art and Education

"Art is the antidote to routine. It is humanity’s revenge against everyday life."

Art and Education
During the academic year 2024–2025, the innovative visual arts initiative “Art and Education” was held once again, in collaboration with the Athens School of Fine Arts (ASFA).
The project was carried out under the guidance of Dr. Vasiliki Brinia, Dr. Eirini Giannimara (lecturer at ASFA), and visual artists from ASFA, Ms. Christiana Asprouli and Ms. Despoina Vaxevanidi.
Its main objective was to raise awareness of various forms of social pathology, such as poverty, problematic role models on social media, and the generation gap.
Students were invited to work in groups and create a visual artwork that expressed how the issue of their choice is experienced and/or addressed. The approach was entirely experiential and expressive, aiming at internal reflection and the externalization of emotions through art.
At the end of the spring semester, on May 23, 2025, a physical exhibition of the artworks took place. The groups presented their creations to the public and to experts, while an open dialogue followed on the meanings and interpretations of each piece. Present at the event were ASFA’s visual arts collaborators: Ms. Christiana Asprouli (responsible for the construction and curation of the works) and Ms. Despoina Vaxevanidi (responsible for the documentation and accompanying texts).
This initiative seeks to connect the field of economics with culture, art, and social awareness. Students are not only taught through innovative methods but are also encouraged to create, interact, and creatively engage with issues that concern educational and social reality.
The visual arts initiative highlighted the power of art as a language of communication, empathy, and expression.
With this action, the Athens University of Economics and Business reaffirms its role as an institution that links knowledge with humanistic education, empowering the voices of young people toward a more open and humane school environment.
The successful initiative “Art and Education”, part of the Study Program in Educational Sciences at the Athens University of Economics and Business in collaboration with the Athens School of Fine Arts, will continue in the upcoming academic year 2025–2026!
Have a great summer!
