Art and Education 2018:

"DIVERSITY AT SCHOOL: Different Aspects and Perspectives"

The AUEB Teacher Education Program, in collaboration with Oslo University, Norway's Department of Teacher Education and School Research and the High School of Fine Arts organized their annual scientific exhibition and annual workshops of students on "Approaching diversity in school: Different aspects and perspectives". With a focus on fine arts, the Program aims to develop innovative pedagogical approaches aimed at the comprehensive education of students as prospective teachers. Dr. Vassiliki Brinia had the scientific responsibility for organizing and implementing innovative educational activities during the year as well as for the specific day conference.

Through collaborative actions, students from all departments attempted to develop innovative ideas for local communities based on the culture and history of the place by linking this development to education and sustainable development. In addition, students reinforced their teaching practices through experiential ideas while significant impulses were drawn from engaging in fine arts as well as study visits to museums, galleries, and discussions with experts.

As part of the Program's scientific collaboration with the High School of Fine Arts, students were tasked with expressing their own perspectives on diversity at school through a work of art. The topic chosen relates to an integral part of school life and the important role of the teacher in dealing with diversity. Students, working in groups, used special art methodologies and materials to create their own work and send their own messages of diversity to the school.

The seminar took place on Thursday, May 17, 2018, from 14.00 to 17.30, at Antoniadou Amphitheater, Patision 76 and was specifically addressed to Principals, Secondary School Principals as well as teachers who teach Economics and Informatics courses. The art exhibition of the students' works at the Antoniadou Foyer was held for two days, on Thursday, May 17, 2018, 11:00-21:00 and Friday, May 18, 2018, 09:00-18:00.
