AUEB participation in the Black Sea High Tech Summit

Under the umbrella of the H2020 funded BRIDGE-BS, the Blue Economy High-Tech for the Black Sea is a large research-based Black Sea forum on ocean digitalization and Industry 4.0 across academia, research organizations, investors, industry, and society at large. It aims to provide a meeting point for industry and research to generate and incubate ideas for future blue economy innovative services, potentially across the various relevant economic activities for the Black Sea.

The first edition of the High-Tech Summit for the Black Sea took place in Varna (Bulgaria) on 27 and 28 September 2022. It was organized to create a supportive environment for companies, start-ups, organizations, and universities to exchange, present and discuss their latest technological developments, debate the most recent discoveries, participate in matchmaking events, and generate business ideas. The Summit was also instrumental to launch the new initiative aimed at accelerating the uptake of sustainable technologies across the Black Sea. Both technology providers and technology users were invited to participate.

Prof. Phoebe Koundouri was invited to present the AE4RIA Maritime accelerator as enabler for the development of a sustainable Blue economy, while Mrs Alice Guittard participate in the roundtable on “common patterns emerging across local discussions” presenting the challenges and opportunities discussed in the BRIDGE-BS Living Labs in Turkey, Georgia, Romania, Bulgaria.

With nearly 200 attendees (110 on-site participation) in total, there was a high level of participation from experts, scientists, researchers, entrepreneurs, and business people who have a vision of innovation and are committed to implementing sustainable technological practices in their work.

The event provided a welcoming environment for businesses, start-ups, organizations, and universities from the Black Sea basin and beyond to exchange, present, and discuss their most recent technological developments, debate the most recent discoveries, and participate in exhibition sessions.

Research Laboratory on Socio-Economic and Environmental Sustainability (ReSEES) at Athens University of Economics and Business is participating in BRIDGE-BS project and leads the WP6. Principal Investigator (PI) is Prof. Koundouri and members of the team are: Prof. Nicos Theodossiou, Prof. George Halkos and Alice Guittard.
