On 25 November 2025, the Horizon Europe BRIDGE Black Sea project marked 4.5 years of collaboration and innovation, with our team from ReSEES, Research Laboratory at AUEB, Athens University of Economics and Business, participating in the event.
Represented by Professor Dr. Phoebe Koundouri (AUEB Principal Investigator) and Alice Guittard (ReSEES Researcher), our team joined 160 participants from across the region to present key outcomes and discuss the future of a sustainable blue economy. Professor Koundouri contributed to the high-level panel “What’s Next for the Black Sea?”, while Alice Guittard participated in the session “BRIDGE-BS Key Outputs & Legacy,” presenting AUEB ReSEES insights and contributions.
The event highlighted several major achievements, including the Black Sea Digital Twin Ocean Demonstrator, advanced modelling tools, AI-enabled assessments, Living Labs, the BRIDGE-BS Database, and the Black Sea Accelerator.
A key highlight of the event was the launch of the BRIDGE-BS Policy Brief, which offers practical, science-based recommendations for policymakers, institutions, and regional stakeholders. Read it here
Further information is available in the project’s official press release
We look forward to continuing work that supports a sustainable future for the Black Sea.
Prof. Phoebe Koundouri, on 02/12/2025 in Milan, reflected on what it truly takes to move from climate pledges to systemic transformation, and how science, technology, and policy can effectively work together to achieve this goal.
Prof. Koundouri recently had the pleasure of discussing these themes in an interview with Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei (FEEM), hosted by Prof. Sergio Vergalli within the Research Program “Modelling the Energy Transition (MET)”. The conversation explored the complexities of global climate governance and the COP process, the profound interconnections between mitigation and adaptation, and the realities of today’s intertwined economic, social, and environmental multi-crises.
The discussion also highlighted the crucial role of capacity building and digital twin systems in designing and testing evidence-based, just, and future-proof sustainability pathways before their implementation in the real world.
